Omaha Newspaper Buys WikiCity

I was just informed that newspaper publisher Omaha World-Herald Co, which operates Omaha.com, has acquired Nebraska-based social directory and cityguide WikiCity. The amount wasn’t disclosed.

WikiCity formally launched with coverage for 22,000 cities and towns in June of this year. Here’s my post from that time.

WikiCity is similar to the just launched ShopCity or AmericanTowns.com.

WikiCity founder Pat Lazure said the following in an email to me this morning:

I will continue to run with it. I sold because they offered the resources and mindset to grow it further.  Unlike most papers, this one is employee owned and that makes all the difference.  They are as realistic about current conditions as the are passionate in their work.  Less than one week into it, I’m pleasantly suprised by the tenacity here.
