UK’s Scoot Tweeting on Behalf of SMBs

Here’s something of a model for others: UK directory site Scoot has begun to send out Tweets on behalf of local businesses that advertise on the site:

According to the press release that went out previously:

Each special offer ‘tweet’ has a link back to the advertiser’s information page on Scoot where consumers can see more detail including addresses, telephone numbers, descriptions, websites, maps, directions, photos, coupons and even videos.

Scoot already has a database of more than a thousand special offers posted by local businesses – a number that is growing daily.

Expanding into services like Twitter on behalf of SMBs will make directory relationships more valuable for them — and generate more leads. It’s also free to the publisher.

Related: Twitter plans to introduce paid services for companies large — and small. Right now Twitter is trying to learn how companies are using it and how to enhance those uses with tools and services.
