Jivox Building Local Video Ad Network

I spoke yesterday about the Mixpo-Comcast deal and how it was great to have the video on Comcast.net but broader distribution was needed. Today comes news from Jivox (a Mixpo competitor) that it’s developed the beginnings of that network:

[Jivox] announced that it has significantly expanded its publisher network by adding several new web properties including Examiner.com, Accuweather.com, Weatherbug.com, Media News Group and others. The Jivox Publisher Network is the industry’s only locally focused network of premium publishers that includes over 600 local TV, radio and newspaper websites across the country. With these new partners, the Jivox Publisher Network now reaches more than 55 million unique visitors.

I’ve argued in the past that video will all but replace static banners (even dynamic banners in many cases) in the not-too-distant future. With video creation technologies and “filmmaker networks” becoming common and now near “commodity” status, distribution becomes critical as a differentiator.

As a video-creation platform Jivox may or may not find success, but if it can continue to build a high quality local video distribution network, it will be highly successful and a near-term acquisition candidate.
