I tried it a few times recently and got a server error every time.
Based on what I did see, it appears they are pushing the envelope on ‘local’ (Manhattan only) and ‘on-line verticals’ (furniture only) – a sort of ZocDoc for consumer goods.
I buy that we will continue to see more and more of these types of sites. It makes me wonder though how we will discover, discern… and remember all of these once they’ve proliferated. I can imagine a period of massive consolidation after the dust from the local/vertical explosion has settled.
What do you think, Greg? If you agree there will be consolidation – who do you think the ‘buyers’ will be? IYP? CitySearch? Google? Or somebody we haven’t heard of yet?
Thanks for your feedback. We have received more traffic than we expected and are working hard to keep up with it. If possible, please email me at vin at yipit.com so we can better understand the problems you ran into.
As for our narrow scope, we are focused on Manhattan and using furniture as a starting off point as we expand to all retail and service categories.
I think it’s probably more the the font more than anything else, Ahmed. It does seem a weird coincidence given all the fonts they could have possibly chosen.

Hmmm… their name and logo is eerily similar to another company in the local space. Yelp.com anyone?

Yes … they both start with the letter Y and they both have red in their design!
I think we have a Sherlock in our midst.
