HBO’s ‘Wire’ to Focus on State of US Newspapers

I don’t really watch traditional broadcast or cable TV anymore. However many of the people I know who do consider HBO’s show “The Wire” to be the best show on the air. Set in Baltimore, MD, the show’s final season will focus heavily on the Baltimore Sun newspaper, where Wire executive producer and writer David Simon’ worked for many years.

In some respects the fictional Sun portrayed in the show will be a stand-in for all US newspapers, as The Wire explores the state of journalism and the struggling print newspaper industry. The real-life Baltimore Sun is owned by The Tribune Co., which was just taken private by an group headed by real-estate investor Sam Zell.

It should be a fascinating season. Maybe I’ll rent the DVDs later šŸ™‚
