Facebook ‘SocialAds’ Coming Today

Today at Ad:Tech in New York Facebook is set to announce a new ad platform and capability, “SocialAds.” TechCrunch has some informed speculation on what’s involved. Basically it appears to be behavioral and demographic targeting on third party (off Facebook) partner sites using Facebook profile information. It would presumably be a competitor to Google’s AdSense and other display and content targeting networks.

I was given a tip that I should pay close attention to the announcement today, which suggests that there will be a local targeting dimension too.

We’ll see what emerges.
