Images and Local SEO

Chris Smith’s “Locals Only” Column at Search Engine Land today discusses the importance and role of images in local SEO in the wake of Google’s “Universal Search” initiative and the growing importance of images (and video) online more generally. Images complement yellow pages “metadata.”

This tactical/technical information isn’t typically the stuff that I write about here, but it’s a good and interesting column and has some strategic implications for publishers as well, as search engines seek to index more non-text content.
