Online classifieds marketplace (and yellow pages site) LiveDeal announced a deal to provide an online classifieds marketplace for Philly.com, the former KnightRidder local portal now owned by Philadelphia Media Holdings. According to the release:
Beginning in April 2007, philly.com will offer a new online classifieds marketplace, which will be powered by LiveDeal’s robust classifieds advertising platform. The new marketplace will feature pets, furniture, merchandise and services, and will be seamlessly integrated with the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Philadelphia Daily News.
The new marketplace will offer such industry-leading classifieds functionality as fraud protection, identity protection, e-commerce, listing enhancements, photos, community-building, package pricing, and advanced local search capabilities.
Philadelphia Media Holdings is the first US newspaper company to leverage LiveDeal’s sophisticated online classifieds platform to strengthen its print and online classifieds offering. Philadelphia Media Holdings also plans to use LiveDeal’s classified ad placement and ad enhancing functionality to support its autos, real estate and jobs classified marketplaces.
Given the other newspaper news today (about Yahoo!) it appears that LiveDeal will similarly need to pursue any such future deals with independent publishers like Philadelphia Media Holdings.
