About.com Adds Video to Stay ‘Relevant’

Speaking of video, About.com (spotted via MarketingVox) is adding lots of video to its site to allegedly retain users and expand its advertising options.

I would rename the site “waste of time.com” and believe lots more needs to be done to make the content/ad network relevant beyond adding video. The format needs to be changed and there needs to be more social/community input, for example.

I have no problem with the expert content part of the site. But that would be a great deal more valuable if it weren’t just a half-hearted collection of links that can equally be discovered via search. Wikipedia is much more valuable, as are verticals that provide deeper and more specific content.
