There was a long piece in the Sunday NY Times (reg req’d) on Comcast and its comeback. The company is doing very well and has lots of cash. As I’ve said before it also has:
- Internet/search assets
- TV/video assets
- Local sales force (size of a large YP publisher)
- Phone (and soon wireless) assets
Will the company focus on local and decide to do anything meaningful? That is the question. On the one hand Comcast could become a significant player in local, but (as you know) it’s a very challenging market and might not yield the immediate dollars to justify the necessary investments to be competitive.
It’s a question of whether the company wants to take the short or long-term view.
