AppleTV a Sleeper Hit?

Lost in all the hype and controversy surrounding the iPhone was the simultaneous announcement of AppleTV — a set top box that allows users to wirelessly transfer iTunes’ TV/film content to the living room (or wherever their TV is).

This post from LostRemote (citing CNNMoney, citing Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster) is interesting because it says that AppleTV is already selling quite well despite the fact that it’s not technically out yet.

MSFT (via Xbox and other initiatives), SlingMedia (via SlingCatcher) and others are working on porting Internet content to the TV screen. Apple’s brand (and the related trust and reputation for ease of use) may make it the suprise early leader in this category.

IPTV (Verizon, AT&T) and cable companies take note.
