Google Maps and Windows Live Mobile Compared

Barry Schwartz, now at Search Engine Land (there’s a Bruce Springsteen parody there somewhere), points to a post at Gizmodo comparing the newly launched Windows Live Mobile (local search) vs. Google Maps. Gizmodo felt that Windows Live was clearly better. I haven’t compared them. (I’d like to see the new Ask City rendered for smartphones.)

Microsoft’s Matt Champagne recently told me, in discussing the Sprint relationship, that Microsoft’s own internal research revealed how important and strategic local was in mobile.

Mobile search is going to be in large part about local information and it will be a bruising battle — to come.
