Speaking of Online Classifieds . . .

LiveDeal - Online Local Free Classifieds – Buy and Sell Cars, Pets, Furniture, Real Estate, and More

Earlier today I posted on Search Engine Watch about vFlyer. Now comes news from LiveDeal, one of the fastest growing classifieds sites, that it’s done a deal with jobs aggregator and metasearch site SimplyHired. According to the information I received, “all five million job listings on SimplyHired.com will be available on the LiveDeal site.” The integration will go live at the end of this month or early next month.

According to comScore LiveDeal has 1.4 million monthly uniques and has experienced 104% year over year growth.

LiveDeal has been approached by would-be buyers in the past and CEO Rajesh Navar has turned offers down. Fox has a substantial investment in LiveDeal partner SimplyHired, which has been integrated into MySpace Jobs.

As MySpace morphs into a portal and looks to diversify both usage and revenues, classifieds and service business listings are areas that could generate both for the company. However, given the culture of free classifieds online, it’s not clear how much total revenue might be expected. But it certainly could be in the many millions of dollars annually (on the basis of priority placement and/or flat fee inclusion for YP advertisers).

I would expect some sort of classifieds-related acquisition at some point by Fox/MySpace (although they have a homegrown Craigslist imitation).

But back to LiveDeal. If the site doesn’t sell it certainly has the long term potential, given its growth trajectory, to be a major player in the online classifieds segment.

Here’s eMarketer’s breakdown of print classifieds spending by category (data from the NAA). This year print revenues are expected to approach $19 billion.
