Maya’s Mom: A New Mom-Driven SN

TechCrunch reports on new social networking/community site Maya’s Mom (prelaunch). Maya’s Mom is based in the Palo-Alto, California area. One of my favorite Bay Area sites, The Berkeley Parents’ Network, drives huge numbers of local business referrals. I just found a plumber this way yesterday. I trust the site, I went there, I checked out the recommendations and called the guy — simple.

And sites like InsiderPages and Judysbook, which are variations on this theme, continue to experience traffic and revenue growth because their online recommendations are extremely helpful and people don’t have time anymore to “get three estimates” from service providers. You need to find a trusted source and go right to that source.

Women are typically the domestic decision makers and the heaviest users of community sites like BPN or the forthcoming Maya’s Mom or Angie’s List, etc. Notice that Maya’s Mom doesn’t even pretend to appeal to men.

Sounds really helpful..it would be fantastic if it could be extended to include other cities around the world, ie.Insiderpages etc.
