Yelp Updates iPhone App

picture-72Yelp has released an update for its iPhone app, which allows more browsing but specifically allows users to upload pictures of businesses from their iPhone cameras — still no mobile reviews, however. It also adds Canadian content:

I’ve argued in the past that one of the major sources of local online content/UGC will be from mobile phones (images, video and text/reviews) going forward. There’s going to be such an explosion of this sort of content that it will be challenging to manage.

No local site online is going to be able to succeed “going forward” without a mobile application that extends its reach and utility to users “on the go.” So those that think mobile is for “next year” should think again and get going now.

The iPhone, for example, has had 300 million applications download since the launch of the iTunes apps store. That’s no tiny market.
