This release came out ranking (ironically) the top SEO firms in the local space. I know many of the firms or people at the firms on the list. However it’s not clear how rigorous the evaluation was and whether this is a credible organization. If it is forgive my ignorance.
According to the release here were the most significant criteria used to evaluate the firms:
1 How big is your “local” area?
2 How many visitors do you attract daily from your “local” area?
3 What techniques were implemented by the agency to get you maximum coverage for your regional target market?
4 How do you measure the success of your local search campaign?
5 What are the next set of unique local search techniques your agency advises you to implement?
And, again, here’s the list of winners:
1. Solo SEO
2. Search Influence
3. Direct Hit Solutions, Inc.
4. Increase Visibility, Inc.
5. Listed 1st
6. G5 Search Marketing
7. eLocal Listing
8. City Marketer
9. ADV Media Productions, Inc.
10. Expose Local
I believe the submissions for consideration may have been voluntary. For example, Andrew Shotland (maestro of local SEO) is not here.
Please advise whether this list and organization has any credibility.

Hi Greg,
I saw that a couple months ago and I don’t have any idea how the ranking was done either.
Better still, Solo SEO (Michael Jensen’s company) is primarily a tool provider. And, all the data appears to have been gleaned from our site and is, thankfully, a little understated

My understanding is that you pay TopSEOs.com a monthly fee, and in return for that fee they “consider” your company for rankings. If you keep an eye on the rankings they change pretty drastically from month to month, and just about all of the companies that are listed in the top 10 have been a #1 at some point. It is more of an advertising program than a meaningful rankings system…

LIM is exactly right. TopSEOs motivation is only to promote sponsors, not actually create a useful resource. However, there are many respectable operations on the list.
Yes, OrangeSoda should be #1

@Alex, I definitely agree OrangeSoda should be on the list. Not, however, ahead of us
We didn’t pay to be on the list. We just sort of appeared there a few months ago.
They have a great brand, if you don’t have a negative connotation of “SEO”.

We noticed this a couple of months ago as well. We just appeared on the list, but hadn’t ever heard of TopSEOs before…weird.

At least there are a few reputable firms on the list — I love that Michael (SoloSEO AND CityMarketer) made it on here TWICE
Greg, is that an official title for Andrew? I would love to see him introduced simply as ‘maestro’ at the next conference…

So you just need to work with local companies more? To be on the list? How is it determined if you are local or not?

Thanks for outing the list. More transparency in the SEO space can only help the industry as a whole.

The list is dubious as the comments show.

Greg, I resemble that remark

Not saying anything about you Will.
