If you’re a search marketing practitioner — I’m not but I pretend to be from time to time — there’s an invaluable discussion of local search ranking factors on David Mihm’s site. It’s really like a magazine supplement of sorts and much more in depth than an article.

Mihm surveyed some of the most visible local search SEO practitioners and got them to discuss and score (rank if you will) a range of practical variables that influence local search results. It’s the best primer around on local search best practices.
