You Want Job Notices on This Site?

By Greg Sterling

I often get people asking me: “do you know anyone for this or that position?” I’m wondering if people would find it valuable if I allowed people to post job listings (through me) on this site? I would only take them if they were relevant to the “local” audience.

If people don’t like the idea or don’t think it would be valuable I won’t do it.

What say you?

This would be great, it’s always hard to find good help in the Local Industry, especially good PM’s.

If we’ve got to comb through it to get your editorial, then no.

As long as it doesn’t interfere with the core content that I (and I assume others) read your blog for, than I say go nuts! I think it’s a nice way to provide some great value to those closely involved or interested in the local media space.

    Beauty in simplicity, Greg.

    No job postings.

  5. Malcolm Lewis Says:

Why not. Maybe add a “Jobs” Page to your Pages section along with About Greg…, etc. so it’s there if you need it, and not intrusive if you don’t.

Maybe a weekly/bi-weekly would be bestest.

Leave that to LinkedIn. Keep focused on giving all the distilled nuggets that keep us up to date.

You are a media. Go ahead!

  9. Mark Josephson Says:

Yes…would be a great place to see talent specifically looking for jobs in local space.

I’ve combed through internet marketing job boards and have found very little, if anything, that relates to local search. I think it would be of tremendous value.

    Greg-
I think it would be a great idea.
    Do it.

Greg – I agree, “local only” job listings would be valuable.

I was recently in job search mode and I found the companies I am going to be working with through word of mouth and using your site to research them. So, a job section will be a great addition.

  14. Ross Hill Says:

You have one of the best signal to noise ratios on the internet – I’d keep it that way. I’d add them somewhere but not in a way that they add to the noise (I’m not looking for a job and probably won’t for a while).

  15. Chris Silver Smith Says:

Hmm… not a huge fan of the job listings idea, since I come here to read your commentary and mentions of news items.

However, if you had a page for local industry job listings, I don’t see any problem with it. Even if you displayed a few samples from all the listings in a sidebar, that really wouldn’t keep us from reading the articles.

    So, why not?

  16. Susan Says:

I love reading your posts, and as someone who is actively pursuing employment in the local sector, I’d love to see job listings! When will you make your decision?

  17. Greg Sterling Says:

We’ve got a roughly even split between those who want to see them and those who don’t. Still considering.
