Local.com has done a deal with local ad network MediaSpan to offer the latter’s members access to a white labeled local search box and related content/ads on their local radio, newspaper and television websites. From the press release:
The Local Connect platform enables regional media publishers to incorporate Local.com’s powerful local search technology into their website via a customized, private-label local business directory platform. Local Connect also represents added revenue opportunities for websites by allowing them to integrate and enhance their own advertiser listings, as well as local and national sponsored listings from Local.com’s large network of advertisers.
This is based on the tools and capabilities from the PremierGuide acquisition. In a way it’s a return to Local.com’s roots when it was InterchangeUSA and was competing with PremierGuide for the white label local search and monetization business.
Another part of the deal is MediaSpan’s licensing of one of Local.com’s patents: another agreement that provides weight to the patent. (There’s some almost certain litigation down the line on all the conflicting mobile and local search patents out there once the holders try and enforce against the large players.)
