Local.com earlier this week announced that it had licensed Patent No. 7,231,405 to 12 new licensees. There are a number of conflicting and competing patents that have been issued in the local and/or local-mobile space. What’s significant about this development is that these licenses will, over time, lend credibility to Local.com’s claims in any future negotiation or litigation.
Should Local.com’s patent(s) gain recognition and acceptance the company could be the recipient of some very large dollars from lots of competitors that are operating in the local segment.
