Is Kijiji a Real Theat to Craigslist?
In the short term the answer is no. But longer term it could be. TechCrunch shows off some classifieds traffic from comScore, which shows eBay’s Kijiji outperforming more established classifieds sites — though it’s only got a small fraction of Craigslist’s traffic.
Because of the economics of Craigslist, Craig and Jim Buckmaster likely won’t care if in 5-7 years Kijiji pulls up beside them. They will have made a very handsome living for themselves and their employees in the interim. And if the trends indicate that Craigslist is losing traction, the pair could sell to eBay (or another) for:
- $500 million?
- $1 billion?
- $2 billion?
- More?
What do you think?

Graigslist is not really a company in the sense that it wants to grow and maximize profit. I don’t think Graig worries about competition because they do what they do not because of money or ego. It’s hard to compete with someone like that.
