Zvents has announced expansion of its content to include more traditional business listings in addition to events and entertainment content:
Zvents today announced the launch of Federated Local Search, which provides users with a blended, comprehensive local search engine. Beginning today, Federated (or blended) Local Search results on Zvents will integrate traditional business listings with local events, movies, store sales, performances, sports, venues, and restaurants to deliver things to do, places to go, and people to see through one search experience.
This is an interesting move for a site that began life as an events database and search engine and then became a syndicated content platform for third parties (e.g., newspapers). Now the company appears to be emphasizing itself somewhat more as a (catch-all local search) destination.
The new federated search functionality doesn’t yet appear to be live however.
