CityVoter began as a media partner, extending the value and brands of local TV affiliates online. Josh Walker, CEO and former Forrester analyst, is quite savvy about the local market and the company’s strategy.
For the past several months, rather than be exclusively a white label vendor, the site has started building out its consumer destination, which employs the social media + local formula (if it can be called that). There’s a heavy emphasis on voting, which helps create engagement.
The white label strategy (and rev share) helps provide revenue that can support the related consumer destination strategy. And one of the partners (e.g. Hearst) potentially becomes the ultimate buyer of the site.

I always ask entrepreneurs to call me a month or two before the acquisition deal is done and provide me with a healthy chuck of undeserved equity. Josh? (This is not to imply anything about a deal; I’m just joking.)

I love this site. Great UI and very easy to use. Registering and voting was a breeze. The best-of competitions are a superb way to drive usage and content. Congrats, Josh. A lot more fun than middleware, right?

Curious as to why they are in only a select few cities (consumer-facing)? I would imagine Vegas would be one of the best places for ‘voting’
