Hitwise Top Search Terms: 30% Local Intent

Hitwise (via ClickZ) provides a sampling of the top search terms (100) in ten categories for September, 2007. Here are the categories:

  • IT and Internet
  • Automotive
  • Movies
  • Net Communities & Chat
  • Food & Beverage
  • Pharma/Medical
  • Blogs
  • Broadcast Media
  • Shopping Rewards & Directories
  • Travel

There’s a certain randomness to the categories; however by my calculation (with logical inferences) about 30-35 of these terms (30% to 35%) are local or have a local intent (because any transaction/fulfillment would be offline). Looking at the list probably none of these terms would be regarded by most people (or the search engines) as local.

But they are. Take a look and see if you agree.
