ZocDoc launched at TechCrunch40. This is an interesting calendaring/inventory management application for doctors and dentists (click to enlarge):

I’m a big fan of applications like this. Think of it as Open Table for service businesses. GenBook has a similar application but with a broader market target. These kind of applications may way for a CPA/PPA model: advertiser pays when client books. Also a subscription model could work as an easier alternative: professional pays a monthly or annual fee for use.

The challenge is of course to get SMBs to provision the inventory and interact with the system. However, medical professionals typically have assistants who can do it on behalf of the doc.

GenBook, Yahoo and Krillion will be present at SMX Local & Mobile to talk about the outlook for CPA/PPA in the local space.

We have a similar service to ZocDoc, Appointments Online, for the UK market which is launching in November and is currently in beta. It’s free for patient use and practices pay an annual subscription fee to use it. The service is linked in real-time to the appointment systems in use in the practices and has met with very enthusiastic responses from the beta testers.
