Though its subject matter is grim, the LA Times “Homicide Map” (spotted via the Online Journalism Review) is a nice application and integration of data on top of a Google Map on a newspaper site. I’ve complained for a long time that newspapers should be doing much more of this type of thing — and they’re starting to. I had seen recently that Hearst’s SF Chronicle had done something similar with restaurants, but now I can’t find it! (That’s a metaphor for my central complaint about newspaper sites.)
All of the newspapers in the Yahoo! consortium should be using Yahoo!’s various APIs (including maps) to create mashups on their sites.
