I spent some time on Facebook last night and constructed a short poll, partly to test that feature of the site and to see what the results would be. I asked the single question, “How do you use your mobile phone?“
While the responses are not statistically valid for the entire US marketplace, they are nonetheless interesting and surprisingly consistent with other data and internal estimates that Dan Miller of Opus Research and I have put together for our new Local Mobile Search program.
The findings and rest of this post are on Local Mobile Search.

Hi Greg,
Interesting findings. Don’t know if you’ve read it yet, but there was an article on CNet about Digital Kids and how email is so passe for them. http://news.com.com/2009-1032_3-6197242.html?part=rss
Found out about the article from Lifehacker, and it was interesting reading the comments section. http://lifehacker.com/software/notag/-279664.php
I find that the younger employees are more likely to use IM than email and more likely to use either instead of face-to-face or phone communication.
Getting harder and harder to keep up with the pace of change…

Bob:
That IM vs. email finding has also been confirmed by the Pew Internet surveys. Email is for “parents” and “older people” (like us).
What will be interesting is how IM in mobile impacts text messaging if the former becomes widespread.
