In a tantalyzingly vague press release, voice automation and speech services provider Nuance announced that Verizon had chose it for “future Directory Assistance (DA) services.” Those “future services” may well include a free, ad-supported DA service, not unlike Goog411, Tellme (neither of which is currently ad supported), AT&T’s 1-800-YellowPages or Jingle Networks’ 1-800-Free411 (which are).
Nuance also provides the voice “front end” for Jingle and AT&T’s services.
