Google Maps for Windows Mobile

GMMGoogle has launched its download Maps application for Windows Mobile phones/PDAs. From the Google Blog:

“Like other versions of Google Maps for mobile, with this Windows Mobile version you can find businesses and see real-time traffic updates, along with unique features like contacts integration, GPS support, draggable maps, and tap and hold menus.”

This is the same app that has been available for other mobile phones, extended to the Windows Mobile platform. But it’s the first time, given my Sprint Pocket PC, that I can download and use it.

Google also offers its local search content via text messaging and WAP. Any application in mobile that must be downloaded represents a barrier to consumer adoption. But Google is covering the bases with text, WAP and app approaches to mobile local search.
