So they claim. ClickZ has an article about LinkedIn’s new services directory and Grayboxx, which is supposed to launch in beta but isn’t live yet.
I’ve been trying to catch up with Grayboxx CEO Bob Chandra literally for months to discuss the site and find out what his alleged secret sauce is. I will do so this week. (He says it’s their algorithim and ratings density.) The algorithm may be better but right now the interface isn’t very pretty.

We’ve dropped a few hints about our local search approach; that we know that documents and user data have hints of locality, and if we can mine them effectively, we can understand a community’s preferences for people and places. What this allows us to do is cast light on thousands of business categories that people rarely explicitly review such as patio furniture and notary services. As for our design, our approach was to mimic Google and have a minimalist look & feel. Having received plenty of “constructive criticism”, we are going to re-work it before our launch, sometime this winter. Greg- look forward to talking with you tomorrow.
